XXXIII Seto Kingdom Day

This is modern-day Setomaa's most important event and the largest gathering of Setos. Since 1994, on the day of the Seto Kingdom, one can hear the Seto hymn, see the Seto army march, spend Seto money, and spend time among the best wine, beer, hansa, sõir, bread, and pie makers, craftsmen, musicians, dancers, and singers. As in every proper kingdom, the Setos have their own king, Peko, the hero of the Seto national epic. According to legend, Peko is sleeping in the caves of the Pskov-Caves Monastery, and therefore can't rule the kingdom himself. Therefore, the Setos choose an ülembsootska in his place who is chosen in the most democratic way: by how many people line up behind him or her. 

XXXIII Seto Kingdom Day will take place on August 1, 2026, in Mikitamäe village.
